Adding Home Care Gradually

When your loved one is in need of a little extra assistance with their everyday tasks it is usually a much better adjustment to gradually add home care into their daily routine.

Start Small For A Comfortable Change

Perhaps, starting with three four hour shifts per week then increasing the days and hours as your family member becomes more at ease and accepting of the caregiver which comes with the realization that their life is easier with some added assistance.  It is never easy for someone to let a stranger into their home to help them with their personal needs. This can feel intrusive and completely out of the norm, feeling downright uncomfortable allowing a new face into our personal space. Though, the alternative of not having a caregiver help with your daily activities could be even more detrimental to your wellbeing.  Injury sometimes can occur when we insist on attempting to do some tasks which have become too difficult to accomplish.

What Our Caregivers Can Do For You

As an example, A1 Action Nursing Care began caring for one of our clients just a couple of days per week.  We started by assisting him to doctor’s appointments, helping him sort through his mail and accompanying him to dinner for added companionship.  As he became more comfortable with his caregivers and his needs increased his trustee made the decision to add additional hours to his care for his safety and confidence so he could continue living comfortably in his apartment.  This was done very gradual so not to take his control and independence from him. Eventually, his care was extended to around the clock. We cared for him a little over six years and he remained at home with his freedom and dignity intact.  This example is not unusual but quite a pattern among our clients, and seems to be a transition which tends to make the most sense. It relieves stress and anxiety for the client and family because your loved one is able to age in place, in a comfortable and familiar environment.  There truly is often no need to completely upset the apple cart, by packing them up and placing your loved one in a facility.

Private Duty Home Caregivers

A private duty home caregiver is able to provide their clients with as much assistance as needed in helping them perform all of their activities of daily living.  They are able to provide a wide range of services from companionship to total care assistance of all aspects and tasks included with daily function. A home health care assistant is able to assist with shopping, doctors’ appointments, personal hygiene, medication reminders, and meal preparation and planning.  The caregiver is also able to assist with dressing, bathing, light housekeeping and laundry. If needed, other services they may provide include assistance with ambulation, exercises, and transfers from bed to chair and assistance with standing. Services provided with home nursing care vary greatly among clients according to their ability to perform certain tasks.  The caregiver’s goals and purpose are to help their clients remain as independent and self-confident as possible in their home or facility.

Gradually introducing a private duty caregiver to your aging family member or friend could very well be an answer to a multiple amount of issues and concerns which may be troubling your situation.  Perhaps, just some companionship, someone to eat a meal with, or some assistance to the doctor would alleviate your worries.
